This is a ready-to-enjoy 1965 Porsche 356C Coupe that is numbers matching and has been loved by one California family for at least 48 years. While an older restoration, this is a delightful 356C to enjoy for Sunday drives, tours or car shows. It looks wonderful and feels very tight and responsive. Since it is a California car, it was never subject to the massive rust that many 356C Coupes endured.

This Porsche was built on the 3rd of March 1965. By November 5th, 1972, the Porsche was acquired by Mr. John Spurling of Riverside, CA. The Porsche had accumulated 56,950 miles. Mr. Spurling kept a detailed log of services performed on the Coupe in the back of the original owner’s manual which is with the car today. By 1993, Mr. Spurling had The Body Crafters in Bloomington, CA perform a complete restoration of the exterior. At the same time, he had Cook’s Top Shop in Riverside, CA restore the interior. He also had the engine professionally rebuilt at 129,694 miles. Finally, new chrome wheels were added in 1998. In 2001, the Porsche was handed down to his son, Jim Spurling of Sacramento, CA. Jim has maintained the Porsche faithfully and today it shows 53,606 miles on the odometer. Between the father and son, the Porsche was in this family for 48 years.

The Porsche’s livery is now in Signal Red that is in very nice condition today. There are just a minimal number of touched up chips in highly used areas. The paint is well polished and has great shine and luster. The chrome and stainless steel are in very good condition with some light pitting on the window frames and door handles, which are original and unrestored and in wonderful condition. The chrome wheels look terrific against the Michelin radials and the hub caps have the Porsche crest in the center. The Hela driving lights look smart under the bumper and away from view. Overall, the exterior is in very nice condition and would be an excellent addition to any show or collection.

The interior is refinished in Fawn (Interior Code K) vinyl and shows normal wear today. The driver’s seat does have a small tear in the bottom seat cushion. The fawn-colored carpet is in very good condition and complementary Coco Mats are over the carpeting as well. The dashboard and instruments look wonderful, as does the steering wheel and other controls. It is obvious that his Porsche was not left out in the elements even in the mild climates of Southern California. The instruments are clear and crisp and show little to no patina. The Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo remains in the dashboard and still functions well today.

This is the ultimate evolution of the Porsche 1,582 cc four cylinder 75 hp engine. As mentioned before, this is an all numbers matching 356C, with engine no. 717544 and transmission number 86129. The engine compartment is well detailed and shows that only about 20,000 miles have been added since its complete engine rebuild. Invariably, I assume it has been detailed since then, since it really looks terrific today. The Porsche performs well and really feels tight and nimble, attesting to the service and maintenance that it has benefitted from over the last half-century. The 356C benefitted from the four-wheel disc brakes and improved handling. This really blends the old-school look of the 356 with the ultimate technology before the 911.

The original MSRP was $5,099. A hefty sum then. The Hagerty Values are $115,000 for a No. 2 example and $79,000 for a No. 3 example. The Average Retail Value from NADA is $135,700. We have this priced fairly and it is sure to sell quickly.

For more information and details, please call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. This Porsche is proudly displayed in our showroom in Phoenix.

SOLD to South America!!! This is arguably one of the nicest 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet’s in existence. It’s fully sorted, numbers matching engine, fantastic provenance and great color combination. This is the one to buy!

It has been painstakingly restored to better than new condition and has traveled the necessary 500 miles since to ensure a fully sorted and incredibly gorgeous motorcar. This Cabriolet is ready for the most competitive concours competition or touring. It is so stunning that Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars walked up to this Cabriolet when it was shown at The Quail in 2014 and said, “Man, that’s a great color!” We agree!

SUMMARY OF THIS 356c
-Accompanied by Books, Tools, Documentation, and COA
-Magnificent attention to detail
-1,582 CC Flat 4-Cylinder Engine
-Twin Zenith Carburetors
-75 BHP at 5,200 RPM
-4-Speed Manual Transaxle
-4-Wheel Disc Brakes
-Fully Independent Suspension with Torsion Bars
-Wheelbase: 82.7″
-Engine Number 730861 (Matching)

BACKGROUND OF THE 356
The brilliant 356 series, in all its forms, remains the cornerstone of Porsche’s heritage and continues to be highly prized by collectors and motoring enthusiasts. As the first car to bear the Porsche name, the landmark 356 was relentlessly developed, improved and perfected into an intense competitor, both on the racetrack and on the showroom floor. Light, quick and tremendously enjoyable to drive, the 356 gained a loyal following and an identity all its own, with an avant-garde flair enjoyed by few other automobiles.

Evolution and sales success came quite quickly. Max Hoffman, Porsche’s U.S. importer extraordinaire, exposed the entire American market to the virtues of Porsche performance and engineering, establishing a devoted following for the 356 and all its permutations. At first glance, Porsche’s 356C, which debuted in mid-1963, differed little from the prior 356B and continued to use the T-6 body type introduced in 1962. The new 356C, however, was a major evolutionary step forward with its standard Porsche designed four-wheel disc brakes, higher-lift camshaft for the 1600 C engine, new flat-face hubcaps and deeper bucket seats courtesy of Porsche’s acquisition of Reutter, which owned a subsidiary that later became world-famous as Recaro (short for Reutter Carosserie).

HISTORY OF THIS 356
This special, late-production 356C Cabriolet is a rust-free California car that retains all the original body and floor panels and represents the fulfillment of its current owner’s search for the “right” car. According to its Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, this Cabriolet was produced on January 14, 1964 and finished in Sky Blue (Paint Code 6403) with red leather upholstery (Code A). It was ordered new with ventilated chrome wheels and Dunlap tires.

This Cabriolet received a no-expense spared nut-and-bolt restoration to as-new condition by Dink Farmer, the noted Porsche restorer. According to Dink, it has had two prior owners and had been in Northern California (Lakeport) its entire life. It is presently owned by a significant collector of only the best Porsches. Used only sparingly for shows in its current ownership, this 356C also is offered complete with a remarkable selection of items including an original owner’s book, records, the as-new tool kit and jack, a top boot with its case. Handsomely presented, this late-production 356C/1600 C Cabriolet will be sure to deliver the outstanding driving experience for which this model is renowned.

This is a beautifully restored 1960 Porsche 356 Roadster that is a stunning example in all respects. This car is ready for concours competition or touring and comes complete with its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA). It’s believed to have one prior California owner since new, it was restored with all of its matching numbers components and to the specifications of the COA (expect the tires and use of Blue leather rather than Blue leatherette). Engine, transmission, and engine lid numbers all matching.

We love the Silver Metallic paint complemented with the blue leather interior and blue top boot cover. The interior is upgraded with the period correct wood rimmed steering wheel, which feels great in your hands. The convertible top is black and has only been used once, when it was tested after its installation. The hubcaps are from an S model, sporting the Porsche crest. The original moon caps are available with the purchase of the car.

The production date for the Roadster was June 11, 1959 and it purportedly enjoyed one prior California owner since new. Photos confirm that it was an accident-free and relatively low mileage car. Being a solid original car to start with, the restoration was commenced using all of the original components, accessories and sheet metal. This is not a car that is loaded with reproduction pieces and bits.

The present and second owner of the car bought it from well-known Porsche Hunter and dealer Alex Manos in 2012. Alex acquired the car from the original owner who lived in California.

The current owner has restored a number of vintage Porsches, including 12 other 356’s, and has been an enthusiast his entire adult life. He used all the best resources for the restoration, including: Dink Farmer for the metal work and body preparation, Distributor Rescue, Carburetor Rescue, Palo Alto Speedo, Arizona Transaxle, Nels Dutton for the suspension, Zims Auto Technique, Scott Johnson interiors.

The engine and transmission are both numbers matching originals and all five wheels are date coded correct for the car. Even the brake drums are original! The Roadster has been upgraded to 12 volt for easier starting more dependability. Also included is an original tool kit. The car has completed over 400 break-in miles and has recently had the valves and carburetors adjusted per factory specifications. Hagerty No.1 Values lists this car at $233k.

For more details and information, please call, email or text Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. The Roadster is available for inspection at our Phoenix showroom. We are pleased to offer live video inspections and can help arrange shipping worldwide.

This is a wonderful Porsche 356C that has been in one family for the past 43 years. It comes complete with a full file history and has been in California dating back to 1978.

This Porsche was bought new on September 5, 1964 from USAF Captain Lawrence D. Smith. He purchased it new from Manhattan Auto in Bethesda MD and almost immediately moved to Colorado. Captain Smith enjoyed the car and kept meticulous records from day one. Every fuel stop, light bulb, oil change, etc was recorded in his log book that comes with this fine motorcar. Please refer to the detailed photos.

On April 19, 1979 the Porsche was sold to Gary Wilson of Nederlands, CO who immediately moved to California. Gary and his family are the present owners of this motorcar and all the receipts are included with this purchase documenting the original mileage of about 96,800 miles.

Originally the Porsche was painted red from the factory and at one point the Captain repainted it to the factory offered color of 6411 Togo Brown, which is a gorgeous shade of chocolate brown. The paint has a nice patina and there is some vertical rusting only on the two front fenders. The rest of the car is remarkably without rust. The floor pan is quite solid and well preserved as you would expect for a motorcar being in California for decades.

The interior is quite nice in black vinyl that has been well protected for years with sheepskin covers. Coco mats preserve the flooring. Refer to the photos for more details.

The car drives well and is well functioning. The transmission is a bit tricky and may need work.

It is rare to find such a nice solid Porcshe with such fantastic history. This would make for a wonderful restoration or enjoyed for decades as-is. This comes with all the tools and documentation shown. This is for a serious enthusiast and is reasonably priced on behalf of the family.
