This Packard was sold new at Economy Motors, Inc. in Joliet, Illinois on August 31, 1954.  It was sold to Joe Kozlowski on an installment sale.  The total purchase was $4,474 and Joe put down $3,250!  The original sales contract is included along with all the ownership details.

The Packard stayed in Illinois until 1992 when it was sold by Robert Nystrom to Kenneth Wallace in Paradise Valley, AZ.  It had accumulated 20,700 miles. 

It is gorgeous in Meridian Blue Metallic.  The paintwork was beautifully done.  There are several little chips in the paint that we have not touched up.  The chrome is equally beautiful with a few areas that will need tending to.  Overall, this is a gorgeous, elegant Patrician and will make a fabulous tour car that can easily be shown. 

In 1995 the engine was completely professionally rebuilt and all receipts for parts, machining and labor.  The interior was reupholstered in 1996, including the trunk.  In 1995, the front end was rebuilt due to age along with resealing the transmission and oil seals (the engine doesn’t leak!). 

In about 2006 the Packard was sold to settle a debt between two parties in Arizona.  The motorcar was given to the new owner who passed away shortly thereafter.  The Packard then sat until a few months ago when we bought it, had it thoroughly serviced and “de-mothballed”. 

Items we’ve tended to included ($6,000 of restoration receipts):

• ·         New Coker Classic radials
• ·         Rebuilt carburetor, starter, etc.
• ·         New mechanical fuel pump and electrical back-up
• ·         Complete full tune-up, including wires, distributor, rotor, etc.
• ·         New brake lines, master cylinder
• ·         Valve adjustment

The Packard is now ready for sale.  This Packard drives beautifully and feels solid and confident as one would expect from such a low mileage example.  The radio, all gauges (except fuel sending unit and clock) work.   Again, we invite you to go through the 97 high resolution photos in the photo gallery.  We also invite personal or professional inspections.

The Packard has been painted in elegant Astral Blue metallic by one of Southern California’s leading restoration shops, Hjeltness Restoration in Escondido, Ca. The chrome was all replated by the best chrome shop in Southern California, Christensen Plating in Los Angeles at a costs of many thousands of dollars.  Although the restoration was performed in about 2000, there are literally over one hundred receipts for fastidious maintenance to ensure that this Packard was always ready for the next tour.

The interior is spectacular and has been completely refinished with LeBaron and Bonney Co. wool broadcloth.  The Blue and Gray two tone is very handsome and reminds one of a gentleman’s lounge.  The dashboard is painted in Blue Gray enamel and looks stunning.  There are a few minor chips in the paint of the dashboard that should be touched up and the carpet could use new mats.

The Patrician rides on Coker wide white wall radials that were installed in 2004 with the odometer reading 98,000.

In October of 2010 Mr. Lawrence had the engine completely rebuilt, including magnafluxing the block and crank, all new bearings, deluxe master engine rebuild kit, valve job, etc.  The Patrician has only test miles since.  The brakes were rebuilt in 2006, including the master cylinder.   In preparation for sale we have installed a new rebuilt carburetor and fuel pump.  Although the Patrician would benefit from additional sorting out after sitting for a year, this is one of the nicest and most beautiful 1953 Patricians available and is available at a fraction of the cost to replace it.
