This is a wonderful example of the iconic 1956 Continental Mk II that is a great car for local and regional shows and touring. This Mk II has benefitted from an excellent repaint in its original Light Blue (Paint Code 04) with painstaking effort to align the body panels and a beautifully polished finish. The undercarriage proves that this car was not exposed to weather as it is without any rust or signs of repair or damage of any kind. The chrome and stainless are also beautifully refinished and are mostly show quality. Even the wheel covers have been restored to appear as new. And the radial tires with the correct width white walls look just right.

This Continental is a very early example and was invoiced on October 11th, 1955 and was built as you see it today. It was sold to J.W. Stanton Inc. in Painesville, OH. J. William Stanton was a congressman and counselor to the World Bank for many years. His father was a very early employee of the Ford Motor Co.

The chrome and stainless trim are in excellent overall condition. The bumpers and grill are in excellent condition. It is apparent that all the exterior trim has been re-chromed during the restoration. Some of the interior trim pieces have some very light pitting. The large chrome door sill and jamb pieces also look very nice. Overall, the chrome and stainless is in very nice condition.

The interior is a combination of restored and original components in its original Medium Blue Leather contrasted with Light Blue Nylon inserts (Trim Code 2A1A). The Deep Blue carpet is original and is in overall nice condition with some sign of fading. The interior is showing minimal patina and is overall in excellent original condition. The dashboard and trim have never been restored, showing that this was a well-cared for example through the last 67 years. The trunk is also very well detailed in deep blue carpeting and a deep blue custom fitted cover for the spare. There are some cracks in the steering wheel and minor scratches in the high use areas within the interior. Continentals offered 19 different exterior color combinations and 43 interior combinations.

The engine compartment is very well detailed and is show quality. It is obvious that significant time and attention was given to the engine compartment and related mechanicals. This is a very nice driving example with the venerable 368 CID V8 with 285 hp and the Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. The chassis has been well cleaned and painted with some light undercoating applied to the floorplans.

The Mk II drives very nice and proves to be a very nice and solid car that has never been subjected to rust or significant issues. According to a Continental Mark II expert who evaluated this Continental, this would likely be an example with about 70-80,000 miles from new with recent full mechanical and suspension restoration. It runs and drives better than any Mark II that we’ve experienced and could be enjoyed on tours with little to no effort. All the instruments and gauges function well, even the clock is operating.

Ford created the Continental division, making the Mk II a Continental and in no way part of Lincoln. These were about the price of a new home ($10,000) and it was common for you to have to “qualify” to buy one of the 3,000 built when new. This was the most expensive American car made, targeted directly at the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Each example was painstakingly hand-built with the finest materials. The Hagerty Price Guide shows a No. 2 value of $88,500.

The Continental Mk II will always be one of the most significant post-War American cars and is considered a classic. This is an example of one that is very solid and ready to enjoy. For more details and information, call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. It is available for viewing in our Phoenix showroom.

This is a stunning example of the iconic 1956 Continental Mk II that is a great car for local shows and touring. This Mk II has benefitted from a gorgeous show quality repaint in Deep Red (Paint Code 13) with painstaking effort to align the body panels and a beautifully polished finish. The undercarriage proves that this car was not exposed to weather as it is without any rust or signs of repair or damage of any kind. The chrome and stainless are also beautifully refinished and are show quality. Even the wheel covers have been restored to appear as new. And the tires with the correct width white walls look just right.

The interior was redone at an earlier time and was executed in gray vinyl contrasted with a very correct deep red matelasse brocade fabric. The carpet is also a deep red and shows some sign of fading. The interior is showing some patina and the dashboard and trim have never been restored, showing that this was a well cared for example through the last 65 years. This is the rare and desirable air conditioned model, with the air conditioning working well and it has been converted to R134a and is blowing blowing cold. One hose will need replacing as the copper tube has been crimped. The trunk is also very well detailed in deep red carpeting and deep red custom fitted covers for the spare and the original jack.

This Continental was built in January of 1956 and was originally black (Paint Code 01) in color, with a gray leather interior (Trim Code 6E4L). While we don’t know the history from new, we know that it was sold new in the Northeast and spent some time in Florida before staying in California for many years, mainly in storage. This would help explain the chassis that is devoid of any history of rust issues.

The chrome and stainless trim are in excellent overall condition. It is apparent that all the exterior trim have been re-chromed during the restoration. The interior trim pieces have some light pitting, which we’ve seen on our own California since new Mk II’s. The large chrome door sill and jamb pieces have been chromed well and look very nice.

It seems likely that the mileage is correct and original at just over 83,000 miles. It runs and drives very well and could be enjoyed on tours with little to no effort. We have the complete 158-point inspection report available for your review. The tachometer and speedometer are presently not functioning, but the sale includes new cables and gears to make them operable. The antenna is also not working. Please review the inspection report for details.

2 value of $126,500 and a No. 3 value of $56,650, including the increase for the air conditioning.

This Mk II comes complete with the most comprehensive library of books and manuals that we’ve seen. Included are the body manual, service manuals, technical data manual, factory brochure, a rare dealer selection book and an original owners manual.

The Continental Mk II will always be one of the most significant post-War American cars and is considered a classic. This is an example of one that is very solid and ready to enjoy. For more details and information, call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com.

SOLD to Texas!! Interesting Facts: Ford created the Continental division, making the Mk II a Continental and in no way part of Lincoln. These were about the price of a new home ($10,000) and it was common for you to have to “qualify” to buy one of the 3,000 built when new. This was the most expensive American car made, targeted directly at the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Each example was painstakingly hand-built with the finest materials.

This consigned motorcar is a driver-quality 1956 Continental Mk II that is a great car for local shows and cars and coffee. This Mk II is not in the normal condition offered by Classic Promenade, but it is one of seven cars offered by us for a collector in Oregon. The car itself is very solid with a nice repaint and nice chrome, but the interior was done incorrectly in vinyl and a brocade fabric. Furthermore, it is the rare and desirable air conditioned model, but the air conditioning will need a significant recommissioning. This is the ideal car for local use as-is or a straightforward partial restoration of a nice, solid Mk II.

This Continental was built in December of 1955 and was originally black in color, with white and dark red leather interior. While we don’t know the history from new, we know that from the 1980’s it was owned for several decades by a couple in the dry Central Valley of California. This couple had the Mk II restored for significant costs, including stripping the car to bare metal and repainted in a beautiful and elegant beige. We do not know when the repaint was done, but it has held up fairly well. The main defects are a couple areas where the paint preparation was not sufficient and there are a couple areas where there are small bubbles appearing. It is fairly obvious that these are not significant rust bubbles, but more related to missed areas of body prep before the new paint was applied. These include just a couple areas that are quite small. Overall, the paint looks very nice and has wonderful sheen and luster. We are pleased to show you this in detail in a live video inspection.

The chrome and stainless trim are in overall nice condition. It is apparent that the bumpers and certain other items have been re-chromed during the restoration. The interior trim pieces have some light pitting, which we’ve seen on our own California since new Mk II’s. The large chrome door sill and jamb pieces have been chromed well and look very nice. The most significant issue for us is the interior, which has been re-trimmed improperly. It was done to the taste of the couple in California many years ago, and is in very nice condition today. But having been the caretaker of a Mk II in the past, we know that vinyl for the seat surface areas was not correct. The price is definitely adjusted accordingly, allowing for the new owner to keep it as is or bring it back to its original configuration.

The Mk II drives very nice and proves to be a very nice and solid car that has never been subjected to rust or significant issues. It seems likely that the mileage is correct and original at under 83,000 miles. The carburetor has been updated to an Edelbrock, making it a little more reliable and the newer wide white wall radials make it safer and handle better. It runs and drives very well and could be enjoyed on tours with little to no effort.

The air conditioning will be a project to be recommissioned, but worthy of doing so. Unlike most of the cars that we offer for sale, this has numerous little accessories that are not functioning. This car will require tinkering to get everything in order. The radio and antenna are not working. The drivers door glass has a crack in it and will need replacement. We have this priced right. The Hagerty No. 4 value is $31,460 for an air conditioned 1956 Mk II. We are pleased to review our inspection report with you and perform a live video inspection through FaceTime or Skype.

The Continental Mk II will always be one of the most significant post-War American cars and is considered a classic. This is an example of one that is very solid and ready to enjoy, yet priced to allow for substantial upside. For more details and information, call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. It is available for viewing in our Phoenix showroom.
