This 1947 Bentley Mark VI is a highly documented early-production Mark VI with believed 18,072 original miles, retaining its original six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission and right-hand-drive configuration. The Bentley presents in an ivory exterior trimmed in tan leather. This Bentley has long-term ownership history and known preservation work. Chassis B1BG represents one of the earliest post-war Standard Steel saloons that will be best enjoyed as a driver, collector piece and is ready to be restored to top levels.

Chassis B1BG was produced during the earliest phase of Mark VI production following Bentley’s return to automobile manufacturing after World War II. The chassis designation reflects the first sequence of Bentley production, with the “B” identifying Bentley manufacture and the “BG” suffix corresponding to vehicles built between 1946 and early 1948. The Bentley was originally purchased by T. E. Davies for Mrs. Mondron-Lethbridge, a French countess based in South Africa, who reportedly drove approximately 12,000 miles over 40 years. The Bentley was subsequently acquired by John Haag and shipped to Tucson, Arizona, followed by ownership under attorney Robert E. Lundquist, who refinished the Bentley in ivory acrylic enamel and drove the Bentley occasionally to cultural events. Later ownership included Robert Burch of Atlanta, Georgia, who stored the Bentley until 2006. A subsequent owner who performed mechanical servicing including a rebuilt water pump, replacement fuel pump, new weatherstripping, and tires. The Bentley was acquired by the current owner in 2023 for their collection.

The Bentley is presented as a four-door “Standard Steel Sport Saloon” with the desirable manual sunroof and early “small boot” body design. The exterior was refinished in ivory white and is in overall good condition. Chrome trim including the upright Bentley grille, bumpers, mirrors, and lighting bezels show light patina appropriate to the Bentley’s age. Coach-style front doors, period trafficator turn signals positioned on the B-pillar, and a British rear license plate BMT 216A. Steel wheels with Bentley hubcaps are fitted with 6.50-16 wide whitewall bias ply tires. Overall, the exterior reflects an older repaint with visible age but remains intact and representative of a usable preservation example.

The interior of the Bentley is in overall good condition, retaining its original right-hand-drive configuration and tan leather seating in fair condition. The front and rear bench seats are in fair condition with the most notable condition of cracking in the well-used areas. The burled wood dashboard is in overall good condition and houses original Smiths gauges. The fuel gauge does not currently function and the steering wheel exhibits multiple cracks. We have referrals for steering wheel restoration that we can offer. The tan wool carpeting is in overall good condition. An aftermarket AM/FM/DVD system has been installed below the dash. Overall, the interior reflects an original cabin that has visible wear consistent with age and use.

The Bentley Mark VI is powered by its original inline six-cylinder engine with the three-speed manual transmission. Documented mechanical work includes a rebuilt water pump, replacement of the original fuel pump with an electronic unit, and updated weatherstripping. The Bentley retains its four-speed manual transmission with right-side floor shifter, four-wheel drum brakes, and independent front suspension with helical springs and hydraulic dampers. The Bentley presents as a running and usable example. Included with the Bentley are build records, ownership documentation, original manuals, spare parts, and a spare tire.

This is a fabulous 1952 Bentley Mk VI H. J. Mulliner Lightweight saloon that has low mileage and has been sympathetically restored and is now ready for touring or showing. While not a concours champion motorcar, this Bentley presents very well, a tribute to its rarity and authenticity. This is one of only 50 lightweights made and it is important due to its aluminum coachwork and its design that emphasized a lighter weight construction throughout. The lighter weight creates a much more spirited driving experience than any other model Bentley for its time.

Ordered on August 8, 1951, B142NZ was delivered to H.J. Mulliner for fitment of its custom lightweight saloon body (Body#: 5391). Its first owner was Messrs. John Croall & Sons and the car became a company demonstrator at their Edinburgh headquarters. At that time, Croall owned the Mulliner works and sold Rolls Royce motorcars in Scotland. Later in life, B142NZ was exported to the United States around 1988 where it would end up in Kentucky and then onto another owner from Connecticut last year.

The aluminum coachwork is extremely straight and solid. The paint is older but overall in very good condition. There are some paint chips and scratches around common touch points, like the door handles and bonnet cover, but overall the paint shines nicely with lots of depth. The two tone dark blue blue and Tudor Gray are a very elegant and timeless look, with a color matched pinstripe to complete the look. The hood is misaligned slightly in the front showing a small gap near the radiator shell. But the overall presence of the exterior is beautiful.

The interior is a mix of some very well persevered original elements with some areas in need of a bit more attention. The leather seats have kept their shape very well and show very minimal signs of cracking or wear. Likewise, the woodwork through the cabin is largely free of cracks. The Wilton wool carpeting however is showing signs of age / wear, and there are a few areas on the bottom of the door panels where the carpeting is peeling. The trunk has several of the original carpet pieces remaining, thought they are in average condition. Most of the tools are not with the car, with the exception of a pry bar and a few light bulbs.

Despite the patina of this car, this Mark VI runs and drives beautifully!! One can really notice the “lightweight” characteristics of this car, as it feels surprisingly sporty and agile. We were also surprised by just how quick this car is, eager to rev and run through the gears. It truly is a pleasure to drive! Our impressions of this car largely positive. We are confident in saying the next owner will be purchasing a car that needs very little attention and is largely ready to be enjoyed immediately.

Overall, this Bentley is very solid. Most saloons have significant rust and deferred maintenance issues creating a nearly unmarketable motorcar. It is rare to find nice examples as we offer here. Though some cosmetic elements could be stronger, it is clear that this Bentley has been appreciated over the course of its life.

This is a fabulous Bentley Mk VI that has low mileage and has been cosmetically restored and is now ready for touring or showing. While not a concours champion motorcar it a the perfect balance of tour ready and yet nice enough for concours entry.

This Mark VI (VIN B417DZ) runs and drives beautifully!! We have just completed a comprehensive recommissioning including a full major tune-up, carburetor rebuild, valve adjustment, replaced all the belts and hoses, new clutch and throwout bearings, rebuilt front end and rebuilt the servo.

The Bentley was ordered by a manufacturing plant in Bolton, England for it’s owner in gratitude for his significant investment in order to retool the company for wartime goods. J. S. Edge, Esq. took delivery of his new Bentley on March 24, 1949 at Joseph Cockshoot & Co. Ltd. He kept it until he passed in 1952. It was later sold to Sir John Elliott who was an important figure in London, being Chairman of the railways, Head of the Institute of Transport, Chairman of the Pullman Car Company, Chairman of Thomas Cook & Sons, etc. It was then sold to Mark White in California. It has been in California for at least a few decades.

This Bentley is extremely solid for a standard steel saloon with sunroof. Most saloons have significant rust and deferred maintenance issues creating a nearly unmarketable motorcar. It is rare to find nice examples as we offer here. The many decades in California likely contributed to its present condition.

The body is extremely straight and solid. The paint is older and in excellent condition. The interior is new and very proper (performed by Ocean Beach Upholstery for about $7,000), with gorgeous butter soft leather and Wilton wool carpeting throughout. The wood is in very nice condition. While it comes complete with the owners manual and tool tray, most of the small tools are not present.

All the gauges work properly, while it has a radio and clock neither are presently working. The chassis still has it’s original rear leave spring leather gaters that are in excellent condition. It has a fabulous set of Michelin radials that look terrific on the car and help make it handle superbly. This positively reflects that the motorcar was well taken care of, with low mileage and has seen little inclimate weather.

For more information and details please call Harry at 602.245.7200 or email us at sales@classicpromenade.com. This is a fabulous opportunity to acquire a great looking and driving vintage Bentley for a very reasonable price.

This is a gorgeous example of 30,000 original mile of Post-War custom coachbuilding: the H.J. Mulliner Sport Saloon on a Bentley Mk VI chassis. This motorcar features three documented owners since new and, importantly, was imported into Southern California in 1977. This features the handsome and somewhat rakish Sport Saloon coachwork that is lightweight as it benefits from ample use of aluminum throughout. We have completed a thorough service, complete new leather interior, Wilton wool carpeting, new WWW radials, etc. This is ready for tour or show!

In June 2012 this Bentley was awarded a second place at the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance. The first place winner was the 2011 Pebble Beach Best of Show winning Voisin owned by the Mullin Collection!! Although this Bentley is not what we consider a concours contender it is always welcomed and sometimes awarded!

The Bentley runs and drives very well. We have invested in complete servicing and have driven it about 1,200 miles since getting it back on the road!! We love how sporty she is on the road, with the lightweight body and the huge sunroof!!

History of B384BH

This Bentley (B384BH) was custom ordered new by A.J. Logette, Esq. who was a partner at Miller Engineering Products, ltd. outside London (W4). He was very particular in his order, as he wanted fender mirrors on both wings, a very specific two tome grey livery with grey leather interior (including a slip cover for the drivers seat). He even specified for the addition of a secret cut-off so the car could be kept from being stolen!

B384BH was delivered by H.J. Mulliner as a completed motorcar to Mr. Logette on January 20th, 1948. From records it appears as though Mr. Logette used the car minimally and kept it for nearly 29 years.

B384BH was then sold to Mr. Frank Smith who was a writer for Disney Studios in California. Mr. Smith fell in love with the sleek lines of the car and imported it into the US. Mr. Smith hired Jim Rickman of Rickman Motors to service the car and, according to Mr. Rickman, the car needed nothing but normal maintenance. It was a very nice original low mileage Mk VI.

Mr. Smith was soon diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 1979. Before passing he asked Rickman Motors to sell the car. It was advertised in the RROC Flying Lady for sale “Certainly the most stylish 4-Dr saloon available on this chassis. $17,250.” That was an enormous sum of money for a Mk VI in 1979!! The Bentley had accumulated approximately 25,000 miles by then. But this was a low mileage rust free example- very rare even back then!

The car was bought in 1979 by Mr. Louis Scalise from Pasadena. Louis had a collection of cars and this was one of the cars he loved to look at. The sleek and stylish lines captivated him. Between business and his large collection of cars he put only a few thousand miles on the car.

Over the years he had the car repainted and reupholstered. Mr. Scalise kept the car for 32 years as the third owner since new.

Since we acquired the Bentley we have had a full re-commissioning from Rolls-Royce factory trained expert Roger Ford. We had Roger replace various rubber in the front end, a complete brake rebuild (including master, slave rebuilds, hoses, All new brake linings, servo disc shaving, etc), rebuilt water pump, new fluids, new radiator hoses, new fan belt, tune-up, etc. This Mk VI runs and drives superbly as only a very low mileage Bentley should!!

The chassis is amazingly clean and the original gators are in very nice condition protecting the rear leave springs. Of course, this is additional evidence proving that this is a well loved low mileage motorcar.

We custom ordered new Diamondback Yokohama wide white wall radials for the car. The ride and handling are superb with the new radials mounted. We have installed a full leather interior in light grey with darker grey piping and proper grey Wilton wool carpeting. The interior is gorgeous!!

The Bentley would benefit further with some refinishing of its interior wood as well as some additional sorting out of electrical wiring in general. When the motorcar was repainted several items were not properly wired. The lights, radio, instruments and clock work well. The horn and trafficators are not working.

With 30,000 original miles this Bentley is a true gem! It has the nearly complete full tray of small tools and all of the larger tools and flashlight, etc. It still has its original spare tire and wheel mounting in the proper compartment. We’ve put about 1,200 miles on this Bentley over the past several months.

The Bentley is complete with its original owners manual (not a reproduction) and we have all the Mulliner build sheets and all RROC and RREC chassis and historical information. This is a full documented and proper motorcar.

This Bentley qualifies for all of the Classic Car Club of America events as a Full Classic and we will be participating in RROC events as well.

For questions please call us at 602.245.7200 or email Harry Clark at sales@classicpromenade.com.

This is a nice and solid standard steel bodied 1950 Bentley Mark VI that has had a complete cosmetic restoration to car show standards. The car features newer paint, correct leather, headliner and carpeting. The chrome is very nice and the car performs very well- in fact, the steering and brakes are much better than most Mark VI’s.

This is not a concours competing Mk VI, but it is very sharp and has received immediate attention everywhere we’ve driven it. Further, we have completed two 100-120 mile trips in the car through winding mountain roads and it performs well and is very pleasant to drive (and for the passenger as well). We particularly enjoy the enormous sunroof which makes driving in pleasant weather a fabulous experience. Why don’t all classic-era cars have sunroofs?

The oil pressure is a little lower than ideal, so it is assumed to have 157k miles since new. The oil pressure is fine for normal collector car use but we wouldn’t recommend using this for cross-country touring without attention (100-200 miles trips are fine). It has been serviced by a noted Rolls-Royce and Bentley technician and is fairly well sorted.

The Bentley Mark VI marked a radical change for Rolls-Royce. It was the first car to be offered by the company with factory built coachwork. The Standard Steel Saloon body was produced at Pressed Steel’s factory. Powered by a six cylinder in-line F-head engine (inlet over exhaust) with a capacity of originally 4,257 cc the car performed really impressive.

Mark VI Bentley’s have a 120 inch wheelbase which was short enough to provide spirited performance but long enough for a comfortable, almost modern ride. The four speed manual transmissions are tight and inspire confidence.

This is an ideal entry into the world of vintage Bentley’s. For further information please call Harry at 602.245.7200 or email us at sales@classicpromenade.com.
