Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

SOLD to New York!! This is a stunning example of a two-owner 1989 Rolls-Royce Corniche II that has accumulated a mere 22,930 miles since new. This has been well cared for and is in nearly showroom condition. Having never been in an accident, with all its original paint, this is a no-excuse example.

We retained an independent third-party inspection to verify the pristine condition of this Rolls. The 37 page inspection report can be viewed here:

Ordered in the stunning livery of Vermilion (Code 9510480) with twin fine coach stripes in tan and a Tan Everflex (Code 5202) convertible top, this Rolls is nearly perfect in every regard. The only cosmetic defect is one very small rock chip on the drivers side below the headlights which has been touched up. The present owner ordered a steel euro-delivery air dam and had it painted and installed, giving the Rolls a more spirited appearance. We love how this looks!!

The interior is elegant in its original Tan leather (Code A4178) with contrasting piping in maroon Cersie leather (Code A3481). The tan leather is in remarkable condition belying its 31 years of age. The drivers seat has minimal creasing with no scuffs or wearing of the original tan dye. The interior leather has never been re-dyed and is in excellent condition. The burl walnut veneer is also excellent, with no chips, cracking, fading or discoloration. It also is in nearly showroom condition. A Nardi sport wood steering wheel has been added and looks fantastic. The Wilton wool carpet and the mouton sheepskin overlay rugs are both in President, a complimentary maroon color. The carpets are as-new and the overlays show minimal wear. A Kenwood high powered stereo system has been professionally installed and works well.

This Corniche was purchased new from Newport Auto Center in Newport Beach, CA on January 18, 1989. The initial service work was performed by Newport Auto Center and Rolls-Royce of Beverly Hills. The Rolls was sent in May of 1991 to the owner’s winter home in Paradise Valley, AZ where it was kept for the next 13 years. By September of 2004, the Rolls had accumulated 11,000 miles and it was returned to the owner’s home in Santa Monica. They enjoyed the Corniche until selling it in February 2010 with 14,675 miles. It has since been with our consignment client in Spokane, Washington.

The Rolls comes complete with service records for the past 12 years, a clean CARFAX, all of its owners manuals, books, pristine tools and the inspection report. Everything works as it should on this Rolls except the drivers side mirror does not adjust electronically. The hydraulic systems have last flushed and serviced in 2013 and the steering rack was replaced in 2017. With 22,930 miles and a lifetime of pampering, this is a rare find for a Rolls-Royce enthusiast. We will be ordering the early service history from the RROC.

For valuation purposes, the NADA high retail value is $87.6k. Further, the Hagerty No. 2 value is $97.2k and No. 3 is $78.9k. This example is clearly a No. 2 car and priced well.

Interesting Fact: The Rolls-Royce Corniche was produced as a hardtop from 1971 to 1980 and as a convertible until 1995. This mode is a two-door, front-engine, luxury vehicle that was a development of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Additionally, Bentley created a version of the Corniche that is the Bentley Continental.   This vehicle originally got its name from the 1939 Corniche prototype and the name itself came from the French word “corniche” which means “coastal road”. The standard Rolls-Royce V8 engine is used along with a three-speed automatic transmission. In 1977, however, the Corniche received a Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection that boosted the top speed of the vehicle to 118 miles per hour.   Production of the Rolls-Royce Corniche numbers over 4,000 and the various models were popular with a number of celebrities at the time. The Rolls-Royce Corniche is loved by many and regarded as a comfortable drive by car lovers everywhere!
