Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a well restored and rust free 1954 Mercury Monterrey Coupe that is ready for local shows and tours. This is a very nice quality restoration of a very solid and rust-free example. The color combination is quite stunning and really harkens back to the fifty’s.

This Mercury has benefited from a quality repaint in its original Bittersweet (Paint Code 17 C). The quality of the paint is quite nice and is complimented with tons of polished stainless steel trim and an abundance of beautifully refinished chrome. The cost of the chrome alone must have exceeded $15,000. The chrome also has beautifully restored enameled badges that really finish off the cosmetics well.

The interior is finished in two-tone Bittersweet and off-white vinyl with matching headliner and black carpeting. The quality of the interior finish is very nice and consistent in all respects with the rest of the car. We love the simplicity of the dashboard.

The engine compartment is also very well detailed and is ready for local car shows. The 256 CID V-8 is rated at 161 HP and when paired with the three-speed manual transmission is a good performer. The Merc flew through our inspection and is ready to be enjoyed in all respects.

This Mercury is available for inspection at our Phoenix showroom. For more information and details call or text Harry Clark at +1.602.245.7200 or email us at harry@classicpromenade.com.

Interesting Fact: The Mercury Monterey was produced by the Mercury division of Ford from 1952 to 1974. This name was chosen to represent Monterey Bay and it was the flagship vehicle for Mercury throughout the entirety of its 22 years.   This model was chosen to replace the Mercury Eight and was introduced as a high-end two-door coupé. Styling choices were made to resemble flight controls in an aircraft, which resulted in heating and vent controls being levers that were perpendicular to the dash. A Ford Y-block V8 engine yielding 161 horsepower was introduced to the Mercury Monterey in 1954 and helped this car to become Mercury’s top model.   Over the years, the Mercury Monterey received facelifts with each generation and performance upgrades until it was discontinued in 1974. With that said, a legacy of this vehicle is that the automobile platform it is built on became the second most popular for Ford, falling just behind the Ford Model T. The Mercury Monterey is a historic success and a vehicle that still turns heads even today!
