THE ESSENTIALS

SOLD via Private Treaty!!! This is a beautiful 1998 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur that has spent most of its life in Southern California. This is the most refined of the Silver Spurs and the pinnacle of the Crewe built Rolls-Royce motorcars before the sale of the company to BMW. And with a mere 49,000 miles and a thorough major service, this car needs nothing and is ready to be enjoyed with the confidence that everything operates as it should.

We love the elegant and classic Magnolia livery complimented by the subtle tan coach stripe. The paint overall is original and in very nice condition. The front and rear bumpers show some abrasions from normal use. These can easily be touched up, if so desired. The alloy Rolls Royce wheels and chrome hub caps look timeless and classic. The radials are new and being black walls add a sporting look to its profile.

The interior is resplendent and befitting of a library or study in a fine estate. We don’t recall seeing the striking two tone leather before. The seats, door panels and headliner are all fitted in two tone Sand and Parchment leather. It looks stunning next to the wood dash, door caps and trim that is burl walnut complimented with other veneers. The wood is all original and in overall excellent condition. Only one small piece of wood has a crack in the veneer, a flat piece in between the two front seats. The light tan carpet is covered throughout with champagne colored sheepskin mouton overlays for the ultimate in luxury. It is extremely rare to find an original Rolls-Royce or Bentley interior in this pristine condition.

The Rolls is complete with its toolkit, books, manuals, the phone for the rear seat passengers and the remote for the AM/FM CD changer.

The last of the series Spurs benefited from the installation of a light boosted turbocharger producing 300 hp and 442 ft lbs of torque from the venerable 6.8 liter engine. This provides a perfect balance of luxurious performance and dependability.

Mechanically, this Rolls has benefited from consistent and extensive servicing. The flawless CARFAX shows 33 service entries in this 21 year old motorcar. Most recently, the present owners have made sure all systems operate as they should. The car performs beautifully and drives as it should. You can have the confidence that this Rolls will provide reliable and comfortable service in the future. As a note, there are no drips or leaks anywhere on this car.

This is an opportunity to enjoy a hand built motorcar that, when new, was close to $200,000 (three times the cost of an S-Class Mercedes).

Interesting Fact: The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is a long-wheelbase version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit that was manufactured from 1980 to 2000. It was also the first model to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy, which would retract into the radiator shell if dislodged.    Both the Silver Spur and Silver Spirit carried over designs from their predecessor the Silver Shadow. This included using a 6.75 L L410 V8 engine along with a GM-sourced THM400 3-speed transmission. Each vehicle was considered a full-size luxury car and self-leveling suspension systems with ride height control and shock absorbers ensure a comfortable ride quality.   There were two variations of the Silver Spur released in the 1990s: The Flying Spur and the Silver Dawn. The Flying Spur is a turbocharged model that features a higher performance than the base model. Only 134 of these were ever produced. The Silver Dawn is a specialized edition of the Spur and featured new technology for the time such as electronic traction assistance systems and heated rear seats.    Production on both base models officially closed in 1997 but continued until 2000 when the Silver Spirits parts were fully out of stock. The luxurious craftsmanship that went into the production of the Silver Spur and Silver Spirit paved the way for future Rolls-Royce vehicles.
