1979 Triumph 750 Bonneville T140,Show Winner!!

Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This restored, show winning 1979 Triumph 750 Bonneville has been a Southern California motorcycle since new.   With 11,500 miles since new and professionally restored and excellent running, this is a hard one to beat.

In February 1999, my perfectionist brother Charles bought this from a motorcycle collector in Santa Monica.   In 1999 the Triumph had covered a mere 7,680 miles.  Charles bought the Triumph and proceeded to have it professionally restored by the expert tech’s at BBC Triumph in Ventura, California.  Several months and nearly $5,500 later this Bonneville was as-new.

Charlie enjoyed riding the motorcycle for several years, winning many awards at large vintage motorcycle shows and taking weekend rides.  Over the years he added about three thousand miles and the total mileage today is about 11,500 (now owned by our father, Hal).

We just finished with a full service, including a new battery, new bulbs, bleeding the brakes, all new Triumph rubber pieces and a full tune and carb cleaning.  This Triumph is ready to enjoy and could only benefit from new tires and a blinker switch.  In total we spent $750 to prepare it for it’s new owner for a no excuses 1979 Triumph Bonneville.

If you have never ridden a 750cc Triumph you are in for a wonderful experience.  You have the power of a much larger motorcycle in a relatively small frame.  Anyone can ride this bike.  My former wife and daughter learned to ride on this motorcycle- and did they get the looks!!  This will easily outrun most modern bikes and is complemented with that amazing British sound!   The smooth five speed transmission makes for a terrific range of driving, from city to country to highway.

1979 was the first year of the electronic ignition so the bike always starts on the first kick- hot or cold.  And by the late 70’s all of the controls were the same as they are now so there is no awkward configurations to worry about.  The bike comes with all the restoration and service records and books.

This Triumph will find it’s way to a lucky new home.  Please feel free to email or call Harry with any questions at 602.245.7200.

Interesting Fact: Triumph Motorcycles was founded in 1983 and is the largest UK-owned motorcycle manufacturer. Right before the founding of this company, Triumph Engineering went into receivership and the name was bought by a man named John Bloor.   From then, Bloor relaunched the company with newer technology and streamlined manufacturing processes. After visiting Japan, the entire team at Triumph decided to adopt their productions strategies and the production process began with generous amounts of money put in by Bloor to cover costs.   The company saw great success in their first few years, but a fire destroyed half the production factory in March of 2002. Barely deterred, Triumph rebuilt and was back in production by September. Bikes produced by Triumph range from sporty to muscle bikes and there is something for everyone at the company. Given their unusual origins and their tenacity in the face of problems, Triumph Motorcycles has become a leading name in the business and their motorcycles are desired by many!
