THE ESSENTIALS

[svgallery name=”1966_Cadillac”]

This gorgeous Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy Five nine passenger limousine without division (sedan) is a genuine survivor, with 20,200 original miles.  We cannot find any evidence of any restoration work ever performed on this fabulous motorcar.  It is all original, just as it was custom ordered from its original owner from new.

The black paint has a mirror finish and the chrome is as new.  This motorcar appears never to have seen the elements.  The gorgeous and elegant brocade upholstery is also like new, with the embroidery in perfect condition.  The carpets, headliner, wood, etc. are all as new. It appears to be well optioned with all the normal power accessories.

The 1966 Cadillac Series 75 nine passenger sedan was model number 66-697, style number 69723-R.  Its price started at a significant $10,312 and only 980 were produced.  This motorcar weights 2,418 kg and is powered by the rock solid 7 liter (340hp) V-8 engine, providing ample performance for any situation.  The wheelbase is 149.8in (3,805mm) and the overall length is over 20 feet (6,210mm) which help to create one of the smoothest riding cars ever produced.

The 1966 Series 75 was completely restyled.  The 1965 Series 75 maintained a 1950’s appearance and was significantly outdated.  By 1966 the styling cues were trend setting and continued the foundation for styling well into the early 1970’s.

This motorcar came to us as a trade-in on a beautiful 1959 Lincoln Mark IV convertible.  The owner had recently bought this car out of the Sterling McCall Museum, located in Texas.  You can read more about this collection of over 100 fine Cadillac’s at www. sterlingmccallmuseum.org.  We were told that this elegant motorcar was exhibited in the museum for the past 30 years.  This would explain the very low mileage and outstanding condition.  It was in the museum from the 1980’s until 2009.

Earlier history appears to be from Indiana and Illinois.  In 1983, this motorcar received a full service from the historic service station, the LaGrange & Ogden 66.  This is part of famous route 66 and is known as being one of the last full service station where the fuel is still provided for you while you wait meditatively in your motorcar.  A major service was performed at this service station on May 5 (cinco de mayo for us in California) of 1983.  The Cadillac had 18,400 miles registered at that time. The original owner of this elegant motorcar is believed to be John D. Fischer from Logansport, Indiana.  Mr. Fischer is a conservative man who through his career showed his dedication to his community and provided funeral services for many decades.  We are still awaiting confirmation of the early history.

We have fully serviced the car and verified that all systems are presently operating as new.  There are only a few paint chips and light scratches to prove that this is all original.  The only mechanical failure is a seal in the rear air conditioning that needs to be replaced (the front air conditioning works beautifully).  We are pleased to perform this repair, or not.  California is not an air conditioning repair-friendly location, but it is a very simple repair.

This motorcar is one that cannot be replicated.  We are excited to have this in our inventory and hope to have this long enough to take a group of our friends for a wine tasting tour through Temecula Wine Country!!  That is what this beautiful motorcar is all about!!  Please call 602.245.7200 or email us with any questions.  But hurry, this wont last long!

Interesting Fact: The Cadillac Fleetwood was manufactured from 1976 to 1996 and is a luxury four-door vehicle. For the first couple of years, the Fleetwood was a rear wheel drive, but it transitioned to a front-wheel drive through 1992.   On the first generation of the Fleetwood, a powerful 4.9-liter V8 engine was the strongest option available to potential buyers. This helped to increase the power output to 200 horsepower, making this an extremely reliable car historically. As time went on, a more powerful 5.7-liter engine was used to bump the performance up to 260 horsepower.   This model was by no means a sports car, but the Fleetwood provided a comfortable, yet powerful ride. From 1993 to 1996, the Fleetwood saw more success than other years, with over 90,000 units being produced during that time. Overall, the Fleetwood is not a flashy car by any means, but the quality of production makes it one of the desired classics car collectors look for!
