Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

We are pleased to offer this newly consigned motorcar.  A California “Black Plate” Buick Riviera that has spent its entire life in Southern California.  It has 115,000 miles and has a newer repaint in the original livery of black with a gorgeous four place white interior.  It has the fabulous  401 cu in Nailhead V8 with cold blowing air conditioning, power windows and an updated stereo.

This Buick Riviera looks fabulous from ten feet away.  Up close you can see that the newer repaint is nice but not concours in any respect.  Overall this is a nice straight, rust free example that could be used as a daily driver and driven to car shows on weekends.  It is not restored but just a nice straight car that has been well cared for in Southern California its entire life.  The present owner made sure that this is ready to be driven anywhere at anytime.

The 1965 Buick Riviera offered dual exhaust and GM’s dependable Super Turbine 400 transmission.  This Riviera delivers 445 ft lbs of torque from the 401 cu in Nailhead V8 and delivers terrific performance with 325 HP.  From the moment you start the engine you can hear and feel the horsepower emanating from the dual exhaust.

The Riviera’s from 1965 will always be considered one of the most stylized and spectacular designs.  The concealed headlights and sharp lines throughout look like a show car not a factory offered motorcar!

The NADA value guide has the 1965 Buick Riviera adds 15% to the value for the 445 torque engine and about $1,500 for the air conditioning.  The Average Retail is about $20,000 and the High retail is $41,000.  The fact that this is a California “Black Plate”, with the 401 cu in, factory air and in Black livery makes this one desirable motorcar!  See the details at:

Interesting Fact: The Buick Riviera saw two production time periods, with the first being from 1963 to 1993, and then a smaller period from 1995 to 1999. This gap only occurred because Buick did not market the Riviera during 1994. As a personal luxury car, the Riviera was designed with comfort, rather than speed, in mind.   The Riviera proved to be parent company General Motor’s first foray into personal luxury vehicles and ended up being heavily praised by automotive journalists. At its beginnings, the Riviera was a front-engine platform that eventually switched to front-wheel drive in 1979.   All in all, the Riviera produced around 1,127,261 units during its lifespan. The 7.0-liter Nailhead V8 engine ensured peak performance along with a three-speed ST-400 automatic transmission. This allowed the vehicle to hit a top speed of 115 miles per hour, making it a high-performing luxury vehicle.  The Buick Riviera is still a heavily sought-after vehicle due to its unique origins!
