THE ESSENTIALS

1957 Thunderbird- Full Rotisserie Restoration – Show Winner! Conway Twitty?

[svgallery name=”1957_Thunderbird”]

This is an absolutely gorgeous ’57 T-Bird.  It is ready for serious concours competition, touring or just gawking at it parked in your garage.  We are still researching all of its history, but this Dusk Rose Thunderbird was a low mileage AACA Senior Award winning car in 1995.  That means prior to restoration this was at least a 94 point car on a 100 point scale.  It is presently very close to 100 points.  The motorcar has less than 82,000 miles since new.

By 2005 it benefited from a full, no expense spared rotisserie restoration from the craftsmen at Performance Auto Group in New York.  This T-Bird and muscle car specialty shop still uses this car as their website attraction to showcase their restoration abilities.  And when you see the photos and the car you can see that they are without question top notch!!  Feel free to see their website or speak with them at: http://performance-auto-group.com/restoration.htm

Make no mistake, the chassis is so clean and beautiful you can eat off of it.  The car runs and drives beautifully and is a constant head-turner.

The restoration of the car was completed by May 2005 and the car has covered a mere 200 miles since. It is complete with a new, never used proper black soft top and a white hardtop with the porthole. This Thunderbird drives as a new car and can readily be competitive in any concours. And with the rare Dusk Rose paint, it is sure to attract attention where ever it is exhibited.

We have performed a complete service and the car has been fitted with a new set of Diamond Back wide white wall radial tires for better handling and safety.  The motorcar also has power seats, power windows, the Town and Country radio and automatic transmission.  Of course it has power steering and power brakes so this gorgeous car can be operated by your 16 year old daughter as easily as your Toyota Prius, and this won’t have an sticky accelerator recall!!

But make no mistakes, this motorcar turns heads more than any other.  And the exhaust note provides a nice rumble when combined with the V-8 four barrell sound!

A former owner of this car (an author and editor for publications such as Ladies Home Journal) researched the ownership back into the 1980’s.  During this research she found that, according to Conway Twitty’s son, this car may have been Conway Twitty’s during his days of collecting fine motorcars.  She published an article about this in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/23/automobiles/dream-cars-i-thought-i-bought-a-twitty-bird-but-now-i-m-not-so-sure.html?scp=1&sq=twitty+bird&st=nyt.

We have friends that have paid $75,000 for 1957 T-Birds of this quality but without the looks of this motorcar.  This is a tremendous value at far less than the cost to restore it.  We are pricing this for a fast sale so act quickly!!  No excuses here, at all.

This show winning T-Bird will be sold to the highest bidder, regardless of price on June 26th at Barrett-Jackson in Costa Mesa, CA.  Will this fine T-Bird end up in your garage?  More details at www.barrett-jackson.com

Interesting Fact: The Ford Thunderbird is an upscale vehicle that featured eleven unique generations. This vehicle sparked the expansion of the market segment for personal luxury vehicles that feature a higher emphasis on driving comfort, rather than high-speed performance. Production on the Ford Thunderbird occurred from 1955 to 1997 and then again from 2002 to 2005. By the end of 2005, Ford had managed to produce over 4.4 million Thunderbirds. The car was originally designed as a sporty two-seat convertible but was not marketed as such. Within a few years, a second row was added, and the Ford Thunderbird is known for getting larger and large in size until the late 1970s. Many V8 engines have been used in the Ford Thunderbird over the years. As the size of the model increased, a larger engine was also required to support the vehicle. This resulted in later models having poor fuel efficiency. While they weren’t advertised for speed, Ford used the Thunderbird body in their NASCAR races, with many hitting an average speed of about 200 miles per hour. The final Thunderbird was manufactured in July of 2005, but the vehicle still holds up as one of the most comfortable and high-performing cars to date!
