Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is likely one of the most rare and desired Crosley’s made: the 1952 model Super Sports wearing many of the Braje performance upgrades.  This Crosley, with the upgrades made, is said to be capable of touring at 75 mph can go far beyond 95mph…!!

Crosley was America’s first sportscar.  The Super Sports and the Hotshot were the two models most often entered in races.

This Super Sports has been professionally restored (2003) and is equally at home touring as well as on the show field.  While wearing some small scratches and such, this is in very nice condition and would be a terrific and fun addition to a collection.

The Braje upgrades include the front grill, the finned valve cover, the exhaust headers and the finned oil pan.  These are period upgrades and are about as rare as upgrades can be.  The engine is the more powerful Bearcat unit that has been rebuilt along with the restoration.  The restoration is  from 2003 with minimal mileage accumulated.

It has benefited from an Austin Healey ribbed cased four-speed transmission, a narrowed 1960 Morris Minor rear end with 4:40 gear ratio and a four bar rear suspension with the original Crosley coil springs.  The engine was dynoed at 68 hp after rebuild.  The rebuilder had the Super Sports to 95 mph and it had far to go…

This is a link to an interesting article on the Super Sports: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1949-1952-crosley-hotshot-and-super-sports1.htm

The well finished red interior compliments the light yellow livery.  The chrome is nice and the car overall looks sharp!

This is an excellent opportunity to add a very rare and crowd pleasing motorcar to your collection.  Please call Harry at 602.245.7200 or email us at harry@classicpromenade.com.

Interesting Fact: Crosley was an American manufacturer that was in business from 1939 to 1952. Originally named the Crosley Corporation, the biggest reason this firm closed was because of the onset of World War II. After the war, production as hard to continue and the entire manufacturer closed down.   A man named Powel Crosley Jr. became wealthy by becoming the largest manufacturer of radios in the world. He eventually desired to go into the automobile business and introduced his first Crosley car in 1939. Most, if not all, Crosley vehicles were produced on an 80-inch wheelbase with leaf-springs. Early production on these vehicles only saw a couple thousand be produced and even less in future years.    During the war itself, Crosley cars grew in popularity due to the cars fuel efficiency, but sales peaked shortly after the war, especially when the Big Three automakers introduced new models of their cars that Crosley simply couldn’t compete with. Due to this, among other factors, Crosley went out of business. Despite this, Crosley cars are popular today and considered to be some of the best collectors’ items!
