Most people know how much I love Packards. The post-War Packard Station Sedans are the last of the line for Packard woodys and are by far the best for drivability. This is a lovely low mileage example that exudes love and care.

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a beautiful 45,000 mile 1948 Packard Station Sedan that has been in California and restored only as-needed.  The interior upholstery is original and in excellent overall condition with only a couple of small blemishes.  The wood is also in excellent condition inside and out.  This Station Sedan has been shown and is also set up perfectly for touring, with overdrive and radial tires.

The Cavalier Maroon livery has been done beautifully.  It has been professionally polished for show and has brilliant luster.  There are no chips in the common high used areas.  The original wood is in gorgeous condition.  This Station Sedan obviously spent the years in a garage based on the pristine original interior and the condition of the wood.  There are absolutely no signs that we see of any replacement wood and the gaps between the joined areas look excellent.  The wide white wall radials are the perfect choice for these Packards for improved handling, braking and safety.  The hub caps have been upgraded to the senior cloisonné center medallions.

This Packard is fully accessorized with the iconic sun visor, Packard branded front fog lamps, the rare cormorant hood ornament that lights up, dual Packard logoed spot lights and a rear reverse light.

The interior continues the picture of a well loved original car with its gorgeous original tan vinyl interior.  The seats are still very comfortable and as you can see from the photo gallery, are in excellent condition.  We even asked our upholstery contractor to give a second opinion and he agreed that the seats, door panels and headliner are original.  Of course, the carpeting is not original to the car.   The dash is beautiful and all the faux wood painted door surrounds and dash are very nice.  The instruments are clear and show no signs of being over exposed to the elements.  Importantly, the chrome and pot metal on the interior are in beautiful condition.  Everything feels nice and tight as only low mileage original cars can.

The engine compartment is overall nicely detailed.  The engine is a slightly different shade of green, so we did not touch up the engine itself.  It looks very nice.  The ancillary components are nicely painted and the correct bolts are used in the body panel sections, which often are replaced with modern bolts.  The wiring harness is original in the engine compartment with some fraying, but the electronics work well throughout the wagon.  Overall, the engine compartment looks nice and would be fine at most car shows.

This Packard was recently displayed at the Concours on the Avenue in Carmel and has been invited to be shown at the Quail A Motorsports Gathering.  But this is really a wonderful woodie to enjoy and use on tours.  With the overdrive and radial tires, this is set up for driving and having fun.

The Chassis has at one time been cleaned and painted and is in touring condition.  At one point sections of the floorboards have been replaced as you can see in the photo gallery.  We have tested the rocker panels and fenders for any excess body filler with our “The Filler Detector” and it checked out fine within normal limits (see the video in the video gallery showing the results).

This Packard comes complete with extra sets of keys, the Owner’s Manual and a Shop Manual.

We have priced this Station Sedan well.  The NADA Values show Average Retail at $124,300.

The Packard Eight was a luxury automobile produced by Packard between 1924 and 1936, and was a progression from the earlier Packard Six which was first introduced in 1913. Offered in four models, the Standard Eight, Custom Eight, De Luxe Eight, and Speedster it was initially powered by a low-compression aluminum-head L-head inline eight producing 90 bhp (hence the name). Power would be upgraded through the years. Through the years the Eight offered optional (no extra cost) four-speed synchromesh transmission. Like other Packards of this era, it featured Ride Control, a system of dash-adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers. The Eight also featured automatic chassis lubrication and "shatterproof" glass. The Eight was available on several wheelbases: 127.5 in and 134.5 in for the 1930 Standard Eight, 140 in and 145.5 in for the De Luxe in 1931, 130 in and 137 in for the 1932 Standard Eight. For 1938, the Eight's wheelbase was stretched 7 in over 1937, and the body was also wider.
