This is a two prior owner California car that has undergone a no-expense spared rotisserie restoration by renowned Thunderbird restorer Bud Gilroy from Temecula, Ca. This car was bought new by a professor from the University of California, Riverside. He loved this car and fully optioned it with all the dealer installed Sports Roadster items. He lived up in the foothills in Lake Arrowhead.
Bud Gilroy bought the car from the Professor in the same colors as it appears today. He bought the car in the early 1990’s and restored it for his wife to use. I personally saw the car before restoration and loved it then! It was in very nice orginal condition as only Southern California cars are. It had relatively low mileage however we do not recall the original, pre-restoration mileage.
He restored every single part of the car, down to the most minute detail. The car spent over one year on a rotisserie. The bodywork was completed by a craftsman in Temecula that used absolutely no body filler. He used nothing but his hammers, blocks, sweat and heat. Again, Bud Gilroy is a highly regarded and experienced restorers of Thunderbirds. This example lives up to his reputation in every respect.
After several years the Gilroy’s completed the car. They enjoyed the car for several years and over 2,000 miles. The car was sold to us many years ago having never had the top lowered (they didn’t want wrinkles to appear on the top!). This motorcar has less than 3,600 miles since its full restoration.
The car is fully optioned with air conditioning, heater, dealer supplied roadster-type tonneau cover, wire wheels, power steering, power brakes, power window, power seats, power convertible top, correct and original wire wheels, an aftermarket “Thunderbird” AM/FM cassette stereo, 390 cu in V-8 powered and new custom ordered Diamond Back radials. Of course this T-Bird has the sliding steering wheel which brings pleasure to anyone seeing it slide! The VIN is 2Y85Z130243.
It has very little patina and would only be improved by continued detailing, use and maintenance. The air conditioning presently requires charging for it to blow cold. The car has not been shown and would be a top scorer at any concours event.
An opportunity to acquire a fabulous rotisserie restored car, done by a famous T-Bird restorer is rare to come by. This car, having a known history from new and being from Southern California in a dynamite color combination is that much more rare!! This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire a fabulous car for your collection.
